Le Marche is simply a treasure trove of Art History, Roman Ruins, Mediaeval Castles and Churches. Undiscovered Marche Art History Tours of Italy offers you the chance to either take on a full day or half day exploring some of these wonders.
We’ll pick you up after lunch and take you to a nearby Roman town. Our guide will take you inside the Amphitheatre and explain how the former occupants used to flood the arena in order to re-enact sea battles. Walk into the old town, which is covered to protect it from the elements, and see the shops the vendors used to sell their wares from. Then cross the bridge to see the huge works holding back the earth that was excavated to form the Theatre hacked into the hillside. Then walk even higher to see the underground cisterns the Romans built to provide running water down to the town below. Finish this off with a look round the Mediaeval castle and a welcome drink or ice cream before heading back to the hotel.
This time we will pick you up at 10am and cover the half day tour in the morning, but we will also take in the museums in the town before travelling a short distance to the Abbadia di Fiastra for lunch. After a long relaxing lunch, you should be revived and ready to take on a walk round the Abbey, taking in the cloisters, the wine and beer making area still used by the Cistercian Monks to this day, perhaps buying some of their produce. They make a particularly potent Grappa which is only for the brave. Then climb back in the coach to complete the day back in the home town, and take a walk round the old village and admire the views before sitting down for an aperitivo and a cold drink before walking back in your own time to your hotel for dinner.
